Garden Waste Bins
In April 2024 Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) introduced charges for all domestic green garden waste bins. Following this HDC established schemes to assist residents with the correct disposal of garden waste, which included providing some locations with green garden waste bins for villagers’ use, under parish council management.
Broughton Parish Council (BPC) has seven green garden waste bins which villagers can book for free under a scheme being trialled over summer 2024.
The booking form, the scheme’s full details and both the HDC and BPC terms and conditions can be found on the BPC website at https://broughtoncambspc.org.uk/broughton-parish-council-garden-waste-bin-service.

This is a reply from HDC regarding a question about the new green bin arrangements from April 2024.
By law, we cannot charge for the collection of food waste. As there is a charge for the new garden waste service, this means we cannot accept food waste as part of these collections.
If the waste is from a vegetable patch or windfall fruit, it is classed as garden waste and you can put it in your garden bin. If the waste comes from your kitchen, it is classed as food waste and you cannot put it in your garden bin.
We are fully committed to continuing to providing residents with advice to help them minimise the amount of food waste they generate.
Approximately 70% of the food waste from UK households that is thrown away is edible. By cutting food waste the average UK household can save £500 each year.
We want to encourage residents to reduce the amount of food waste that they are generating which not only helps the environment but saves you money too.

Public Health Campaign - Measles
You will be aware of the recent outbreak of measles in parts of the country, and that on 19 January the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) declared a national incident over the rising number of cases.
Locally, staff in Public Health are working hard to raise awareness and to encourage vaccination across all ages, and are really keen to reach community organisations to both raise awareness, and promote the additional clinics being held across Cambridgeshire & Peterborough. If you are able to share any of the attached on your social media channels, that would be hugely appreciated. You may also find sharing this link helpful Measles | CPICS Website .

Flood water on road by Village Hall
Water has been flooding on to the road by the village hall for some time. This is caused by a blocked culvert under the road and a combination of at least one additional blocked drain.
The Highways Department of the County Council is responsible for maintaining the road. The leader of the Broughton Flood Group reported this problem some time ago. I wrote to the Highways manager expressing concern that, whilst the splash-risk is a nuisance, the danger of the flood water freezing could produce a danger to life for both pedestrians and motorists.
The Highways Department plans to position signage warning of the flooding in the road to be followed (we do not know when) by clearing the blocked culvert and associated blocked drains. Our District and County Councillors are aware of this problem and fully supportive in clearing the blockages.
In the meantime, please be careful in the road near the village hall. It may be some time before this problem is finally resolved.

Broughton Parish Council Website www.broughtoncambspc.org.uk
Broughton Parish Council (BPC) now has its own website in the public domain for anybody
to access easily. This is in line with government policy. The purpose of the website is to
stand separately from the existing village website and Facebook page, and display
specifically the management of the parish council.
The website will contain the agendas and the minutes of parish council meetings, the
records of mandatory accounts filed with government agencies, the policies from
Huntingdon District Council (HDC) and Cambridgeshire County Council (CCC), together with
updated important information which may affect all members of our village community. It
will take some time to fully populate the website with historic information. The website has
a facility to report any problems with the village infrastructure, such as road signs and car
parking, under the "Report" section. All such reports go directly to the BPC clerk and
chairman.
Please feel free to suggest any improvements to the website, and try it for yourselves
